THE ROLEWe are currently looking for an experienced Therapeutic Counsellor to join our team. The Therapeutic Counsellor will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide ongoing counselling, treatment and support to young people, and develop and maintain appropriate referral pathways and work with other services in the local service system. This role seeks to address mental illness and is inclusive of all gender orientations, cultural considerations and socio-economic demographics.THE IDEAL CANDIDATEWith a demonstrated ability to work holistically with young people with mental health and drug and alcohol issues including indigenous, refugee and CALD and low socio-economic backgrounds, you will provide focused counselling and psychological interventions to young people using evidence-based practice, utilising your experience in therapeutic work.You are passionate about advocating on behalf of young people, and work collaboratively with their carers, families and other headspace team members to determine care or service needs and assist with the coordination of these needs as required. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSTertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social work, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or similarMinimum 2 years’ experience in providing therapeutic interventions to support young peoples mental health, as well as their carers and familiesA demonstrated understanding of mental health assessments, referrals, and coordination of care for young peopleExperience working independently in regional areasValid Driver’s License, COVID Vaccination evidence, Senior First Aid Certificate, and the ability to obtain a NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check THE BENEFITSOur team are the heart of what we do here at Samaritans.
